Acupuncture In Sydney: 10 Years of Service
This year marks a decade of me practicing Acupuncture in Sydney (Sydney CBD). Operating an acupuncture clinic in Sydney was rather rare ten years ago. I first started on Macquarie Street (where I would remain for 7 years) and along with my colleague Rodd Sanchez we were the only fully qualified practitioners in that part of the city. Having been surrounded by many renowned Sydney doctors (including general practitioners and many specialists) we made some very close contacts and a strong referral base. Educating many of the medical elite in the clinical capabilities of Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is no easy feat for a beginner practitioner. In that time over 10 other acupuncture clinics have opened and closed in Sydney CBD.
In 2009 I moved my private practice to Clarence Street and joined forces with the well established and professional Sydney Bodywork. 2 1/2 years later we moved that clinic to a larger premises on York Street opposite the Grace hotel. Working with Peter Furness and Kerrie McGregor has been an absolute thrill and greatly opened my eyes to other modalities. Peter and Kerrie would have to be the two finest bodyworkers I have come across both locally and overseas. 2009 was also the year that I ventured towards Sydney's lower north shore and set up my clinic in Crows Nest. Clinically the dynamic is very different when practicing Acupuncture in the city as opposed to the suburbs.
It is with great pleasure that I continue the service of practicing Acupuncture in the Sydney CBD, I have treated and managed thousands of patients of the years and hope to continue to do so for another 10 years. This year will be very promising with much of my clinic focus going towards the establishment of a clinic and research centre for classical Chinese medicine in Sydney's lower north shore. More developments will be posted in the coming months.
In addition to 10 years of clinical practice I have also been teaching Acupuncture and Chinese medicine for 10 years at the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SITCM). I do not often advertise this fact, but I was the youngest fully qualified practitioner and the youngest teacher at a tertiary level in Chinese medicine in Australia's history (and possibly the globe for the latter). Being young in this profession is often a sign that your clinical skills are not up to scratch, however, in western countries most people don't start studying until they are in their 30's. I began my education in Chinese medicine at the age of 15 informally (through my martial arts teacher) and 17 formally (at the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine). I know I have only touched the surface of this remarkable science and have much much more to learn.
